Question: Who should i go to for allergy shots?

Since this procedure will last for years, I want to make sure I find the right person and that they don't miss something and then I've wasted 5 yrs getting shots. 1. Is the test for allergies (I'm most concerned with Rhinitis) all the same (i.e. same exact allergens injected under skin for testing)? 2. Is the allergy test basic enough that all doctors will come up with the same results 3. When it's time to make up a formula of allergens to inject me with for the shots is this all strcitly based on the earlier testing? (i.e. if I was positive for 5 allergens, then those 5 allergens will be put in my shots?) 4. Thus, is a second opinion extremely important if the 1st doctor is board certified immunologist and if so, what do I compare from the 2 doctor visits? Thanks! |

First, you don't go to an immunologist, you go to an allergist. yes the testing is usually skin testing and literally hundreds of possible allergens are tested for your reactions will remain the same no matter how many times the test is performed or how many doctors do it. the formula used for desensitization will be based on your reactions to the skin testing. if you go to an allergist, you won't need a second opinion. be aware, desensitization works for only about 50% of those who try them. I took the shots for eight years and they did me absolutely no good whatever. |
